Reagan vetoed it. Then, almost immediately, Rush Limbaugh was pushed into national syndication — free to stations, specifically to help one-sided political broadcasting spread faster.
So no, this partisan media ecosystem did not descend from the heavens by accident. It was built on purpose, right after the rule requiring balance was deliberately torn out.
