Kind of hard to explain to your roommates when you host at your residence, also a lot of traffic coming and going from your apartment/house isn't good either...
My fav KC ladies host me at their apts; one lives alone, so no roommate conflicts; the other has a roommate but works 8-5, daytime visits are a breeze; both are low-volume, both tell me I'm on a very short list they host at their homes, I believe them; no worries about excessive in/out traffic.
It also has to do with what sort of appointment a lady prefers. If she prefers outcall, then she may offer a lower outcall rate to encourage outcalls, or vice versa.

I think the ladies here have pretty much covered it. It is preference, nothing more. Heck there are some ladies who charge the same no matter what. I know some ladies prefer incalls because it is where they feel safe or most comfortable so they post a lower rate to entice people to visit them for that reason. Others feel the reduced overhead of doing outcalls is better... unless you're driving an inefficient vehicle, travel costs are usually going to be about $0.15/mile or so depending on gas prices. It would take a lot of miles to equal up enough gas to cover the cost of a room.
When I first started out, incalls were easy to do and preferred... but as time went on, I learned several benefits of having outcalls instead.
I would never have a provider to my residence. Maybe I've just seen Risky Business too many times. So, I always look for incall. With that said however, I don't like incalls in personal residences. I feel very uncomfortable, like I'm invading their space or something.
I recall a very popular provider that saw guys at her apartment. The place was full of her kids stuff, including pictures of the family all over the place. In addition, her place was visible off a major highway. I used to drive by, see the furniture on the balcony, and knew that she must still live there. Long after she "retired", I would still her frequently because I had a buddy that lived in the same complex. It was all a little too weird for me.
The first several times, I had ladies over to the house. I went to an IC just once and it appeared to be her residence, however, it could have been just a loft she was renting to conduct business. It was a pretty nice place though, so I would think it was the primary residence.
Got me interested in lofts though. Wish they weren't so damned cold and hard to heat.
