A Word on Skepticism

Good post. The name of that guy who posted the phony death notice should be Pleasure's Whacked-out Stalker instead of Pleasure's Friend. Get a life, dude.

Maybe there should be a new rule where only Mods and post anything to the nature of someone posting a death notice on the boards. There has been to many of these bogus threads either a troll or someone playing a joke.

Bolt I can take care of that for you!!!

Duke,

Is there any valid reason at all to keep that "Death Notice" thread in public view? If traces of the troll are left in public view, doesn't that feed him? People will still click the thread, especially since it is linked in this thread, and the view count will keep rising so even though banned, the troll keeps getting a laugh.

I know ECCIE prefers to not remove things but this should be one of those cases where it serves the entire community to remove it. Originally Posted by LazurusLong

My gut tells me that taking the "death" notice down just confuses things more. I don't know that it's feedng the troll when everyone can point and say "we don't tolerate this kind of behavior." Even bad examples can be helpful sometimes.

Since Pleasure has been posting the "I'm alive and well" thread, I'm not sure that pulling that was necessary.

But, that's just my take. I'll ask the rest of the staff and see what consensus there is.

this has happened several times in the past, on this board and on others i follow [non-hobby].

the problem is that some people believe anything posted on the internet or emailed to them or texted to them or even told to them.

pls, if it's a really serious topic, DOUBLE CHECK THE FACTS AND SOURCE.
dont just believe what you read or hear.

caveat emptor.
Good thread and good word. Seems like the current system is working at least fairly well. It took Tuscon just 3 hours to call BS on the post and DofG about four to get it shut down. That's almost as fast as that FedEx guy getting fired as a result of that viral video.

Point is taken. It takes a community to prevent, and to police, such behaviors.
