Best Restaurants in San Antonio?

For pizza, I like the brick-oven pizzas at Freetail Brewery at Military Hwy/Loop 1604.

I prefer my own gourmet burgers so rarely eat burgers out though Chris Madrid's are pretty damn good.

For pizza I really enjoy NY style pizza and I found this place on my exploits of the city, Central Park Pizza of NY. It's right next to the Bexar County Courthouse, across from the San Fernando Cathedral. I always enjoy going downtown just enjoying the sights, people watching and discovering new food. Check it out, the pizza is delicious. The place is nothing fancy and quaint.

Goombas has great pizza ! I will never go to the Cove its way over rated the burgers sucked. The lords kitchen is good but if your ever in corpus go to south padre island burger company. It's the best burger I've ever had and I've had lots. Lol

For burgers I like Armadillos by SAC, and the ones at the Blue Star Brewery in the King William district downtown. For pizza Chicago's on Blanco both inside and outside the loop is good. They make a decent Chicago style pie. For a good mom & pop pizza place, Maria's @ Vance Jackson & Wurzbach is great. There's literally and old Italian couple running the place. Last time the SO & I went they were having a small party with some friends and were instant we stay and have dinner with them. It's a nice small hole in the wall place.

Best burgers I know of is about 30 miles north of San Antonio on US 46 called Antler Cafe - way out of the way if you're in the city, though.

Best pizza I think is Big Lou's..

I will strongly disagree with those saying Dough's is great. I tried it once and it was awful, soggy and cold. The "large" pizza was smaller than many places' small pizzas. That along with three salads and drinks (i think two of the drinks were just waters) was over $50.. Never again.

Kennedy's????? Bar Food right down the street from my house... Try Boudreaux on the Riverwalk good food. Or Citrus (Hotel Valencia) for really great burgers. Thick & Jucy...kind of like Malaya.

Since the Cove went upswank, the prices went the same way.
But i'm not knocking them. Especially since I have one of their cards with a few hundred dollars on it. There are probably better burgers around, Delivery, but you'd be pressed to find the organic nature that the Cove advertises.

TallGeese, try Timbos on Broadway. Thanks to a member here giving me their address. The guy there picked up the shop from Little Hipps and moved it there.
(That was the biz before Amardillos. I didn't have the heart to go into that place when Hipps shut down.)

And thanks for the tip on the Italian place.

Armadillos for burgers, luthers for chicken fried steak, Kennedys & Romes for pizza, Habaneros & Freebirds for burritos, alamo cafe for TexMex.
I agree with Mokoa - whataburger is decent for a quickie but you gotta try Chris Madrids at least once if you haven't.

I'm not "big" on trying pizza parlors. I'd say pick up some crusts from HEB and make your own and load it up with all the cheese, veggies, and meats that will fit. If I don't feel like cooking, Pizza Hut will hit the spot! YUM!
Babes Old Fashioned Hamburgers is nice. It is on Fredericksburg near Hillcrest.
Chicago's pizza on Blanco & Oblate. Small Pizza weighs about five pounds. You want deep dish? It's more like a swimming pool. No other place comes close here in San Antonio that I have tried. Worst service in San Antonio, but you know what? If you want real pizza, you'll just shut up and say thank you when it finally arrives because it's that good.

Bonus- there's an AMP in the same strip mall, so you can get a handy while you're waiting. Damn, that'd be about the perfect evening.
