Let your conscience be your guide.
No matter who the mysterious "they"( the provider) is, I think it speaks volumes that there is even a question. The guy obviously came through for the provider in a time of need. Does that mean anything?
Oh and blacksuperman, I need to borrow $400 could you float me a..er...let's just call it a loan?

Yes, maybe, just maybe all of you nice people are right! but I hate to go against the grain, now, what are the changes the money is going to be paid, regarless of the 99% of us that says it is "only right". In the first place anyone that is lens any money, should just give it as a "gift", casue the changes it will get repaid or remote, plus if you are lending the money, you will loose a freindship, get others involved, and really lots of headaches. So just kiss it good bye and say, "Hey by the way, that loan that I made you, well forgeet it, just consider it a gift"!
I think it would be the right thing to do. I'm sure if it hadn't been for the fact that his phone got disconnected and you two lost touch, you would've probably paid him back by now, unless you had no intentions of doing so in the first place. Like someone above me said, a debt is a debt. I always make sure to pay someone back as soon as I can after borrowing money, even if it's been a long time since I've seen them.

Well if he now contacted and asked you, i mean the mysterious provider, for the money, i think it would be the right thing to do. The guy helped this provider in a time of need.
Or if this provider noticed the guy is back or for whatever reason is thinking about giving the money back, i think it speaks volumes for a provider to make a good on a debt she owed.
However, if this provider did not make good on the debt it would not be the first time it happened around here.
Vintage,
I MAY GET IN TROUBLE OR MAY NOT .. BUT IF U TRIED AND TO GIVE BACK AND HE WAS BUSTED THEN TOTALLY NOT UR FAULT.. YOU MADE AN ATTEMPT THINGS GOT COMPLICATED U MOVED ON AND SO DID HE. HOWEVER IF HE HAD WAYS OF KNOWING HOW TO GET AHOLD OF U FOR YRS HE SHOULD HAVE DONE SO USING A PAYPHONE , FRIENDS PHONE OR EMAIL. ITS KINDA HARD TO SAY BUT IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT HE WANTS TO DO ABOUT IT .. YOU MAY HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO HIM THAT U WERE THERE THE WHOLE TIME AND HAD THE MONEY BUT NOW THE SUDDEN RE APPERANCE HE MAY HAVE TO WAIT FOR U TO RE GATHER THE MONEY CONSIDERING ITS A POP UP APPEAREANCE ON HIS BEHALF ... MAKE IT RIGHT IN UR MIND AND SEE WHAT HE SAYS FIRST.. BUT DO TELL HIM U HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN AND U ARE SORRY FOR HIS UNFORTUNATE SITUATION BUT IF HE WISHES FOR THE CASH AND NOT THE ASS THEN SET UP AN ARRANGEMENT ASAP ... BC IF HE WAS A REGULAR AND WAS THERE FOR U IN NEED THEN U DEF NEED TO PAY IT BACK WITH NO Q'S.. MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL AND CAN MAKE ANY SITUATION MESSY!!!
Money is not the root of all evil. The "LOVE" of money IS the root of all evil.
In this case if you love honesty, integrity, your reputation, friendship or relationship... pay it back. You may need their help again someday.
If you love the money more... well then there you go.
A loan is a loan...whether it's a week or three years. If the provider tried to repay and he *turned it down,* that's one thing...but the situation, of the short hiatus, isn't a reason for not repaying the loan.
He's at least due for some kind of compromise...either in trade or payments.
he should be paid back if he request it.
im wanting to know what shes done about this situation .. i have never borrowed and not paid back .. if i owe i pay up .. but im sayin in her situation if she tried then thats good and communication was still open on his behalf .. the person who was lent the money to she should speak up and make well .. its really hard to tell what hes gonna wanna do with the situation .. make it simple and let them know u are very well aware and if u dont have the complete amt then pay what u can and make arrangements .. dont let money come between u and some one with a big heart who trusted to give u the money ,..
I have never borrowed money from a client, but understand that wonderful ladies need help when a situation may present itself. I have been told stories of well-regarded ladies skipping out on hotels and not paying the bill or owing a client several sessions and not following through. I would imagine that ladies who do this are doing this intentionally or not making an effort to make the situation right, rather than the mere, honest attempt to make it right (as you are doing your best to make it right based on your concern of contacting him/responding to his potential request for reimbursement).
If I have a vet bill or a tuition bill I need to pay, I try and run an awesome special to generate the revenue to aide me in a time of need. It always works and I tend to build an even larger clientele. Yes, I may see an extra client that day to make the money necessary for an excessive and unpredicted bill, even when I know it could be tiring to see that extra client, but it is good knowing I don't have a debt with a client. You seem to have a beautiful heart in wanting to make it right.....and guess what? It is good Karma on your part! Best wishes, love.
Is he asking to get paid back? If not, then he probably doesn't care or he would bring it up. Or you could simply remind him that you borrowed some dinero and ask if he still wants you to pay him back. Most likely he will say forget about it since it was such a long time ago. I would say that if it was me.
The RESPONSIBLE, ETHICAL thing to do is pay the debt back.
But there are people who make promises to pay back a loan knowing full well they will never do it. Unfortunately I had that done to me...for nearly 15 times the amount your provider friend owes, 82vintage. It was also a provider and it was very recent.
Tell her to do the right thing...honor the debt and pay it back.
