Help An Animal They Will Love You Forever....
Princess, unfortunately, some breeds do get a bad rap! You're a good soul for helping those poor animals!
Too many people that I've helped have screwed me over.

Years ago an acquaintance had a 9 month old chow/shepherd mix that they felt was so bad it needed to be put down. He mentioned he was going to take it to the pound in the next couple of days. It especially didn't like kids. My wife, at the time, and I were looking for a dog and I offered to take it and try him out. It was amazing! He took to us immediately. He turned out to be the best dog we ever had. He never did get over his hostility towards children. I suspect he was teased etc. by kids as young puppy. We just had to be careful with him when we had kids in the house or outside. He was extremely protective of us, and would bare his teeth when visitors got too close to us or made what he thought was a threatening gesture ( like a handshake) But after an hour or so he would be as friendly as any dog could be., and he would remember the person the next they visited. He always slept at the foot of our bed. We had him for 12 years before he developed dementia and didn't recognize us any more. He would growl until we said his name then would realize who we were. We tried to keep him, but pretty soon he began getting lost, even in the house, and would walk into a corner and couldn't figure out how to get away. Finally we decided to put him to sleep and we both cried like baby's for the next couple of days. Then we went to the local shelter and got two rescue dogs and that helped out. After our divorce I got the two dogs couldn't stand to be without them.
Will never forget my old buddy tho.
Ramos that is a chows temperament, people need to realize a dogs temperament when they are adopting. Chows are very protective, not the type of dog for an inexperienced dog owner. They are very strong and large and are very loyal to family. They are also a lot of up keep as they have very thick full coats that need to be cared for properly. I knew a couple who had a pair of them in SA TX and when people came over she had to put them outside they were that protective. They would stand at the door and bark viciously! LOL They can be great watch dogs! I'm glad you rescued 2 dogs, they are pack animals and I think they prefer to not be alone especially if you get 2 that get along together well. My 10 yr old chi had severe separation anxiety when I rescued her at 6 yrs old. Now I adopted another chi who was 5 months old and she is now 2 yrs old and they play together like my 10 yr old is a puppy! So cute together. They love each other and are very seldom far away from each other and my 10 yr old seems to have gotten over her separation anxiety. They are like night and day the 10 yr old very submissive and the 2 yr old very dominate! That's probably why they get along well.
Princess, you're right...Chows are very protective! An ex-boyfriend of mine had one. He took a liking to me, but I was the only one he wouldn't bite. Sometimes, he'd growl at boyfriend if he got too close to me...it was crazy!
