So if history is any indication, how would that attitude work on the Japanese after WWII? We took the high road there and let them keep their emperor and McArthur steered the country into modern times very quickly and without much internal strife. Of course, we got the emperor to actually talk to his people and do the unthinkable by publicly surrendering.
