aaaand I'm back

I'm just going to outright say it, man-- the only desert or other action you had was either a trip to Vegas or the sand box out back. Out of the thousands of people who really did serve, and many who use this board, you managed to regularly post from a war zone. Bull. Security isn't that porous out there and you apparently forgot your profile data tracks the date and time of your posts. Go back and look. Folks. You're being duped.

This is going to be good, I got my popcorn and candy ready!
Barti, there is no reason to assume he did not deploy simply because he made a few posts in the interim. Depending on where he's stationed, internet access isn't necessarily limited.

This kind is, Sins. You don't get to just fire up the laptop and go for it. The enemy has plants and technology, too, and the loose lips genre wasn't just for WWII. Some of those posts were supposedly after just being in the thick. Not buying' it.

You're kidding me, right. Here is the short version. And that is all I'll say. Be gullible if you want, but it matters for the reason we have our flag and why we do. For the same reason those of you who bought into this charade were quick to give thanks for the presumed service. It's more than well deserved if it happened and the opposite when it's claimed and not rendered. Ask the ones who really did something, but you can't because they won't tell you--at least not in the near future, and many can't for obvious reasons. The sacrifice whether in the field or in support of it by our military cannot be taken for granted or misused. It is the only reason we are able to enjoy what we do and it is not defended by fraud or frivolousness.
Hmm, just happened to see this here but what gives you the impression that I wasn't deployed? I never once compromised my location, I always used proxies whenever accessing ECCIE as to make sure there was no way to trace it back to me. It's 2012, internet is now pretty common on every FOB and even some COPs that I went to, check out Spaware and SniperHill they're two companies that provide these services to the individuals at these locations. I'm sorry if I'm not your stereotypical keep my mouth shut about my service and what I do but I'm proud of the fact that I get to serve my nation day in and day out. There's a couple of providers here that know for a fact that I'm in the military and there's some members here that know for a fact that I was deployed. I agree with your statement about support for our military cannot taken for granted or misused but by no means was this a plea for attention, just that I know there are people on here who were wondering how I was doing so if I had a chance I dropped in and contributed.

Depending on how old you are or the people you surround yourself with your viewpoints might be different but military culture is changing and so are the demographics. The strong silent type is going away and social media and the ability to communicate immediately to others is taking over. There are still plenty of things that I'll keep to myself and luckily I have a good support system that will be there for me if I ever need it. Plus, I'd like to point out that I wasn't out and about all the time, we get time to get back on mainbase every once and awhile for some rest and relaxation so that afforded me an opportunity to peruse the boards as well. I'm not going to go beyond this though, if you don't think I put my life out on the line for the past 7 months then that's your right but I know what I did and so do many other people.

I have wondered about this OP since he started the whole schtick about deploying.

I have current relatives that have deployed more than once to both places AND I gotta say they never, never, ever were able to have the access that this guys claims.

It (internet access and email) was pretty wild west in the early days, 2002 and 2003 at certain Rear-location bases; but then it all seems to have gotten tighter around 2006 when the DOD got wise.

Let's look at it this way - not one current Vet has stepped up to backup his claims.

Ladies this is just the current version of the old line to get into your pants. " I am off to war, please give it up."

Looks like a duck, smells like a duck...... QUACK!!

I am and will always be Original Delta!

Call me gullible but I'm inclined to believe astroker..........welcome home and thank you for your service.
The last two times my sister deployed, I was able to Skype with her on a pretty regular basis. Ironically, being able to talk on the phone with her was spotty at best, to the point where I added an international plan to my cell phone so we could talk. Once Skype became available, no more need to rack up international phone bills anymore. So yes, as a matter of fact, our soldiers can and do keep up with the folks back home via the internet.

As I said earlier, I see no reason not to take Astroker at face value, the same way we take everyone else on this board. As a veteran myself, and the very proud sister of a soldier, I have a special fondness for all who serve, and I won't hesitate to condemn pseudo or pretend soldiers in a heartbeat. But there is no reason to jump up and down on someone about their service or possible lack thereof unless there is good reason to doubt their credibility, and I just don't see that here.
Xoxoxo!!!!

I think he's legit. I've been messaged on Facebook regularly and Skype with some of my close friends who were sent over there. Interwebz is available EVERYWHERE these days...
