If you're in the mood for grilling (or smoking) your own steak, buy the select filet's from Granzin's meat market in New Braunfels. You won't find a more tender steak anywhere. The $/pound is pretty high but still cheaper than what you'd pay in a restaurant.

I very rarely go out for steaks so can't help you out much there. Originally Posted by 9pinBowler

since a few of the more expensive places have been mentioned; and since you like originality versus "chains" ===> might I mention one of Likinikki's favorite places?

I would like to "second" Chama Gaucha. Some don't consider it a steakhouse, but for the price it's better than any place in town. My cousin and I went to Texas De Brazil once when they had that 50% off Groupon, (hell of a deal!) and while it was good, I wouldn't have been completely satisfied with paying full price. It was too loud/crowded and the meat quality was not up to par.

I went to Fogo de Chao once, and it was HORRIBLE! Bad service, cold, overcooked meat, and they were out of several cuts. Not to mention it's more expensive than the other two! The only place which has been consistently awesome is Chama Gaucha, aka Heaven on Earth!
Little Rein is yummy Also, I like to make my own. Ribeye! Yum!
Has anyone been to Perry's? At La Cantera? Curious about it. I've been to Kona, they have yummy steaks, but not to Perry's yet.

I've been to Perry's in Austin a few times. It was a very tender steak (much better than Ruth's Chris which is just meat in a pool of butter) but too pricey. My employer was paying, but the meal tab per person was over $125.00 a head each time with the appetizers and what not!

I enjoy grilling ribeyes at home rather than going out, except for Chama Gaucha because of the variety. Otherwise, it's more fun to drink a cold beer, grill some steak and stuffed jalapenos, and only pay a fraction of the price!
Ahhh I figured it was expensive since its at La Cantera and the prices aren't online. I went to a place in Houston, Sullivans. Super duper good, but when we were done the bill was over 300 bucks. It was 2 of us lol oopsy! I think it was all the drinks that did it lol
