Let's start a band

Yep Flea plays so good no one knows he's naked!
good one! so true.
With Luz naked and on bass , if things don't go well , you can always unplug her like the Pistols did with Sid Vicious !
Not really, well maybe. Trying to find musicians to jam with on craigslist is worthless. Being in Austin I'm going to assume some people here can play other instruments than the skin-flute. Are there any other musicians out there that get tired of the "we're gonna make it" pro gear pro attitude required bullshit and can lay down a groove or what ever and dig making noise at music lab once in a while? This is a real shot in the dark but what the hell.

I'm over 40 and still like to get loud(fluent on bass and guitar). For me blues, surf, punk, and a little metal all float my boat as well as free-form acid jazz jamming with lots of feedback and delays. What kind of players haunt this board? Let me know. Originally Posted by frustr8d

Even so I've still had one guy walk up to the stage and actually have the balls to say "Hey Codybeast, love the music. My (Big mouthed) provider friend xyz told me ALL about you".

About 5 years back some monger wannabe musician left a note with their Eccie handle, number and an offer to jam or record sometime at their "Home studio" on the driver's seat of my car at the gym.
How the hell they knew me or my car I haven't a clue but again it could only have been the result a provider's loose lips.

Needless to say I'm now much more careful about what I disclose to providers.
That sucks. I definitely understand the keeping various parts of your life separate. I suppose you never know what level of discretion(or lack thereof) any given person will think is acceptable.
In my own defense of this post, it isn't a solicitation for starting a real band(play gigs). More of a 2 hours at Music Lab once in a while at high volume for an alternative form of stress relief. So I guess I'm not looking for pro level players anyway. But, it would be fun to give such a project a name. The Hobby is a little obvious so my first vote would be for The MSOG's
They keep coming to a town near you.

I tried to post ads for musicians for a white power band on Craigslist. The ads were flagged in removed in 20 minutes! What the fuck!

Wow think he wants to cover james brown and marvin gaye songs? Elvez the Mexican Elvis has a song, I'm brown and I'm proud, bet he covers that one too.
Bass, working on pedal steel (harder than you think). Managed to go to high school and tour Texas a little, college was easier than touring.

Sold my Rick and the 1000 watt Sunn for more money than I paid for them. Looking for a decent used single neck to go with my Mini Marshall.

Glam rock. Yes, Genesis, Eno, Gentle Giant, Golden Earring, King Crimson, Moody Blues.

If you can play Tool and Dream Theater then hit me up.
i used to play drums professionally, sing also, not professional at that, have done recording and played with some of the big boys mosly country, but have been known to hammer out some rock and blues. still have pro equipment. what i dont like is when your trying to put something together , just a club or dance band for example, you get about 100 people that tell you how damn good they are and about only two or three of them can really get through the songs, guess what im saying is if your gonna get on stage at least know about 50 songs correctly and maybe some of your own for the the style or venue your playing and entertaining, just my two pennies.
I play. But not much of what you post. Mostly mainstream classic rock. And Texas Country stuff. Oh... and I play drums. If you're not interested in gigging every week, hit me up.

Kewl topic, frustr8ed... I'm definitely down for some jams! I'm a versatile vocalist although somewhat rusty after almost 16 years of focus on parenting. Definitely lost some upper register. It bums me out when I'm just doing my thing and suddenly there's some notes missing! Just gotta exercise those cords & lungs to open up again... I hope.

I really love FUNK as I've always been a rocker yet have a natural gift for melodic riffs. Probably cuz I was a "tween" during the era of disco and singer/songwriter based pop which both rely heavily on vocals. Harmonizing has always been easy for me thanks to those influences. My inspirations include:

Ann Wilson (Heart), Pat Benatar, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, Diana Ross, Christina Aguilera, Zepplin, Beatles, Poe, Nikka Costa!!!, STP, Metallica, Anthrax, Crystal Gayle, Emmylou Harris, Journey, Foreigner, Fiona Apple...

Eclectic you could say. Just depends on my mood.

Would really appreciate a creative outlet at this time so hit me up!
