There is no way to know. It's Monday morning quarterbacking to say it was a terrible mistake and we would be better off if we had not gone to war with Iraq. The truth is we will never know. If we had left Hussein in power it could have led to a terrible outcome. You are absolutely right, nobody really knows. But if it never happened what paradox do you think could have been created if we just said "Naw...your not worth it. Ya'll do what you want." ?
Imagine if we had gone to war with Germany several years before we did and had taken Hitler out. No doubt it would have been a bloody and expensive war. Some people would have called it a terrible mistake. It may well be that by taking down Hussein we prevented a far worse outcome.
History is filled with irony. We gave stinger missiles to the Mujahideen and they used them to defeat the Soviets which probably hastened the fall of the USSR. Then the Mujahideen gave sanctuary to al-Qaeda and they took down the World Trade Center.
Maybe it's a blessing. Maybe it's a curse. Time will tell.

George Tenet , the CIA director held over from Clinton's administration, told Bush that Sadam definitely had WMD's; it was a "slam dunk." Originally Posted by joe bloe

Fascinating.Keep on posting Assup. Eventually you'll say something witty, even if only by accident.
Bush was given bad intelligence? Those are two words that don't belong in the same sentence. Originally Posted by Yssup Rider

Here's a possible alternative outcome. We leave Sadam in power and he is overthrown by a military dictatorship. We pay off the new dictator and he becomes a puppet like Mubarak.
Or Sadam watches a televangelist on satelite TV and becomes a born again Christian. He adopts western style democracy and makes guest appearances on the 700 Club.
Or after years of trying and failing to make a nuclear bomb, Sadam buys one from North Korea and immediately nukes Iran.
Or Sadam becomes fascinated with New Age philosophy and becomes a Hare Krishna. His sons take over leading the country. Originally Posted by joe bloe

She's probably more concerned with reassuring people she has one.
