Guns

Heard on the radio this morning that Prohibitions started on Jan 17th sometime back before I was born. Now that worked really well.

The biggest "mass shooting" in NYC, which fortunately resulted in no deaths (hmmm?) was two cops who both reloaded their Glocks twice (almost a hundred rounds) while the "perp" didn't shoot, not having a gun to shoot with. Then there was the cop last year in NYC who unloaded his Glock on a guy, missing entirely, IIRC.

The Supreme Court has consistently ruled that police have no obligation to protect us. I greatly respect them, but I don't depend on them.

Me? Three 1911's (.45 & .40 S&W), a 626 (.357 mag) three AR patterned rifles (two in 5.56 NATO, one in 7.62 NATO) and three 12 gauge shotguns. And a frickin' million pound safe with all the silverware and jewelry. Mags? No idea. Number of people killed in the last 40 years? 0. Number of people wounded? 0. Number of people I've pointed a firearms at? 0.
My wife at one time did not want any guns in the house. That was until one night a meth head jumped our privacy fence at o'dark hundred with intentions of breaking into our home. He thought better of it when he saw my large dog. He then proceeded to jump the fence into my neighbors yard and broke into their home. My neighbor came downstairs and found the guy in the kitchen trying to start a fire in his house. He bolted upstairs and called the police. The Police found the man a couple streets down hiding on someones roof. This occurred in Williamson county home of the notoriously large and aggressive police force not a ghetto. So regardless of where you live there is always a chance violence can come knocking at your door.
I am thankful to this day that my home was not invaded. The experience of seeing a dead body riddled with .40 Winchester Ranger JHP from the one gun I did have in the house would have been traumatic for my girls who were early and per-teen ages at the time.
Today as has always been the case I sleep with my S&W M&P .40 next to my head. Because of that experience my wife also has a 12 gauge within easy reach from her sleeping position. She will obtain a CHL in March and carry a Walther .380. My oldest girl is now a freshman in college and like many girls her age is oblivious to her surroundings. I have taught her that if any suspicious looking person approaches her car to simple take the large bowie knife out from under her seat and place it in clear sight on her dash. So far people have kept walking as folks pray on easy targets.
The point of sharing my experience is to convey that regardless of your social/economical status trouble can reach out and touch you. I respect others wishes not to arm themselves but with all the violent crime, rape, child molestation, etc occurring I choose to mitigate some risk by arming myself and family.

Austin_Voy, nobody is even suggesting firearm prohibition. Why would you say that? There are 300 million guns in the U.S. Prohibition is not even a remote possibility, from a practical standpoint.

In "mass shootings," the "mass" refers to people, not bullets. I don't think you can characterize a police officer discharging his weapon as a mass shooting, regardless. In NYC, there was widespread condemnation of these two officers for endangering the public, as this happened in Midtown in the middle of a workday.

This sounds like typical NRA straw man arguments.

Again, just to be clear, no reasonable person who favors more gun control would question northaustincouple74's, or his wife's current firearm possession.
This is all a plot to raise the revenue of gun & ammo big business...duh!

Not a blanket statement. I was referring to shooters:

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/...mass-shootings

That incident could have gone either way in Houston. The man was already robbed. Those two decided to go after the robber and start exchanging fire. Any thought to where those stray bullets might have landed? Could have killed someone in the street or in a building near the shooting. A good trade off for a wallet, cell phone and a car? Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Castro disarmed their citizens.

The 2nd amendment was added to protect us from our gov't which is why the American Revolution was fought. If our forefathers did not own guns for the purpose of fighting off the British we would be a totally different country.

If you want to prevent mass murders - remove gun free zones - period!

Only thing I know for sure is that all the people claiming that there is going to be a revolution if they pass a ban are full of it. Especially the ones that think they can win.

I know people know Obama won reelection but I think they missed the part about the republicans keeping the house so no chance a ban will be passed.

Crazies + guns = danger

Getting rid of either one improves percentages and lowers the risk. It is a hell of a lot harder to identify and remove the crazies than to get get rid of a bunch of guns, especially when there are 300 Miliion of them. If we could just lock up all the guns when they aren't being used legally by their owners and make sure that moms and others who own small arsenals make sure their unstable sons don't have the key or combo (not sure if she had them locked up, but if she did or any similar situation) but I have no idea how to legislate that people lock up their guns and ammo and enforce it. Just sayin' that the solutions are fairly clear if not easy. Accepting the status quo may suck even worse and that is from a gun owner (but not a gun or 2nd Amendment crazy).

Last time I checked a lot of knives ARE banned in this country. Get pulled over with a switch blade or a butterfly knife, or a Bowie knife, or some brass knuckles and your ass will get a felony. they can regulate knives & other weapons but not guns??

Is it maybe possible that the 2nd Amendment could've had a little something to do with slavery ?
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/01...serve-slavery/

I could pull up a gazillion links about murders & shootings that could've been avoided had it been for strict regulation but it's too late right now. And the asinine idea that we need more guns is about one of the most jack ass ideas I've ever heard. Yeah instead of one nut job shooting in a public venue lets have 50!!! *SMFH*
