Greg Raymer, better known as poker champion FossilMan, was arrested earlier this week in North Carolina, according to CardPlayer.com, in what was originally described as a “male prostitution sting.” Several media outlets, including TMZand ABC, used the phrase "male" to refer to the sex workers involved. Later some of those outlets, including ABC, removed the word "male" from reporting.


Card Player says Raymer was seeking a female prostitute; TMZ reports he was seeking a male prostitute.

What is sure is that police allege that Raymer responded to an online advertisement posted by undercover police, according to Card Player. He and five other men were arrested at a hotel in Wake Forest, N.C.


Raymer, who tweeted on Feb. 25 that he was "Thrilled to be home for a while with my lovely wife &daughter," won the World Series of Poker in 2004. Unlike in his mug shot, Raymer is most recognizable for the lizard-eye hologram glasses he wears in competition.

With a sex crime under your belt, probably going to have problems being hired around children, and anywhere that someone thinks you might take sexual advantage of someone. Most people do not understand that those of us who pursue this hobby are actually the last persons who would harm a child. Predators are a small subset of this culture that we all wish could be kicked out.

I do think felony convictions are a much harder fence to cross than misdemeanors. Also, drug convictions typically will prevent employment in medical industry where access to the controlled substances is an issue. That said, medical transcriptionist, working from home or at least outside the area of access would probably be fine.

In my past lives, we typically did not hire felons, period. Not a question of felony type, just didn't do it. In most cases, I don't think misdemeanors matters.

Important things to consider:

1. Need a HS diploma or GED, minimum.
2. Eligible to work in US, green card or native.
3. Can you show up for work? Monkmonk's comment above is so true. Typically hire people via temp agencies: Temp agency does initial drug test and qualifies items 1 & 2 above. Then, I get to evaluate whether they can show up for work 5 days a week, on time, and ready to work. Training people in job skills for many jobs is not that difficult. (I haven't hired any rocket scientist or brain surgeons in last 15 years, still not allowed to talk about the prior 15 years.) You can't train an adult to drag their ass out of bed and go to work.
4. Can they pass the drug test?

If a person can somehow convince me they are dependable and willing to work, I would be excited to hire them.

From that standpoint, the temp agencies may be a way for a person to establish a work history and return to the workforce. Temp agency is only going to send the person to jobs that allow the convictions, so they do a large part of the work for the eager worker.

I assume that employers are still using temp agencies a lot - I think in a move to avoid Obamacare provisions, more & more will turn to temp agencies.

Also, consider part time work. That is where the jobs will be - more & more workers will have to hold multiple part time jobs because of Obamacare.

The most important thing for her (and any aspiring employee, regardless of sex, age, skeletons in their closets) is to be willing to take a job, almost any job. Show your dependability, eagerness to work, ability to learn new tasks. Don't expect to make $200 per hour, or even $60K a year as you start out on a new career. You are going to have to prove yourself.

Of course, all of this pre-supposes that the lady in this case has no unusual talents or skillsets, no advanced degree in some area of study that is in high demand, but rather is your basic young lady who stumbled into this business, struggled a bit, got burned by LE, and is now trying to climb out of the hole she dug for herself.

Retrain. Go to, no shit, community college, and learn how to do something. All those TV commercials about medical records, office help, insurance paperwork...having a skill set greatly improves your chances. It also shows that you can set goals and achieve completion of task, get out of bed, show up and do the work. All of those things go a long way to distance yourself from a less than stellar past. There are so many recovering once "misguided" people out there the American workforce would collapse if it was waiting for spotless recruits. I know that tatted up big-tittied girl at the Taco Bueno drive thru window isn't fresh from the convent.

DO something that makes you look more worthwhile than "immoral". Look like you kicked your issue in the ass, on paper and in person.

Herein lies the issue with many here trying to transition. Many started this because it was easier money. They have zero work ethic. They have an extremely unreasonable assumption of how life really works and when someone who is actually a boss lays down the law they walk rather than deal with it.

They were apparently enrolled in some program that found them jobs as well as places to live.
