Oh, man...I can't believe that. I used to call it the Adult Make Out Place. I had many memorable make out sessions on the couch or in one of the cubby holes. Great dark place for some fun times.

Sad news, indeed. I remember my wife and I making out on the couches upstairs many times...not with each other, but instead with other couples. Lots was tolerated in and out of the shadows.
Don't know. I always brought my own. Last time I went was about 10 years ago. While I know dick all about the hobby even now, I doubt I'd ever even given much thought to the hobby 10 years ago. Completely off my radar.

Do people really make out in there? Can't they just go to the woods behind a high school like normal people? I do not get it! Why are you weirdos sad?! Originally Posted by KatieKatieNYC

Hell, I used to make out in the park over by the Waterwall north of Richmond, just west of 610 back when City Streets was in operation. It was great! But it was private land and it's been developed since then.

I have some great memories of Marfreeless. There are a lot of places I have great memories of that I didn't frequent for years before it closed. Astroworld comes to mind quickly, for example. For those of us who felt like Marfreeless was extremely cool, it sucks to see it go. It was a very unique place for at least 30 years.

For folks who either never went there, or went there but never felt like it was their thing, I can't see why it would be missed at all.

And Weingarten's are total A-Holes. If they don't like you or want to rent to someone better they just rip up your rent check and said they never received it and you have 30 days to vacate.

Still, it's hard to think of Marfralas going away.............it's a Houston instatution.

Somebody mentioned the River Oaks theatre too. I'd hate to see that go. I love that place just in a much different way than Marfralas and my fav-o parking spot.
I'm assuming that the whole center will be vacated and redeveloped just as the one across the street was....there goes the River Oaks Theatre...

Anyone that knows me even a little bit on this board knows I'm a conservative and a capitalist...but sometimes I hate seeing institutions like this go away in the name of free enterprise. If you've ever toured Berlin and seen the bullet holes still in the walls of buildings in the museum district or dranck a beer at the Haufbrauhaus in Munich were Hitler gave his first major speech nearly 100 years ago you understand what I mean. It's just kinda sad.

I've only been there once and it was pretty recent, maybe a month ago?

Sad to say, my experience was not that great. Bartender was a real douchebag and even got upset at two ladies that were with me making out with each other!

I'm sad to see it go as well. I took a girlfriend there about a year ago and we had so much fun having drinks and messing around. The décor was worn but there was just something so exciting about making out and exchanging quick oral pleasures in the open.
Man, if the walls could talk in that place. Been there for years........Hate to see it go. upstairs was the place to be to have fun. If the bar area was crowded.......they would put you out of the club if you got frisky in the couch area downstairs......I saw two frisky ladies put out that way, after a few warnings from the bartender......lol

A real shame. Marfreless was one of those places that lots of people in Houston didn't know about, and it was a great way to feel out whether a date was adventurous or not. Way too many good times there to list. The room upstairs farthest from the staircase holds some particularly fond memories.
