I remember that George Bush had a hostile congress for nearly all of his administration but he got his tax cuts, the mandate for war, the Patriot Act, and so many other things. Obama had absolute power for two years and only got Obamacare by the narrowest of margins. Oh, and all that money he wasted that Bush got for him to bail out the economy.

The democrat party had control of both the House and Senate, starting January 4th, 2007, when the recession began."

In March 2006, President George W. Bush (43) set a 200-year record, becoming the most veto-less President since the early 1900s. The last President to exercise no vetoes at all was James Garfield, who held office only six months before being shot.

When President Bush had been in office 1,889 days, he had signed 1,091 bills and vetoed zero. President Monroe vetoed his first bill on day 1,888, 4 May 1822. Neither Adams nor Jefferson exercised a veto. Prior to President Bush, Garfield is the most recent president who failed to exercise executive veto power.

and that my boy is how republicans cut spending ...

So, the one person who thinks Shrub did a good job is too stupid to remember who controlled congress during his administration.

CC, I think your question has been answered. And, for once, we have almost total agreement.
Yes, Bush was a terrible president....but he did keep us safe from domestic terrorism, after 9/11

Let see he got a mandate for war and tax cuts so as not to pay for them. You're bragging about that?

Let me remind JD of one other thing. Were we to be attacked again like 9/11, Obama would be able to ram down congresses throat anything he wanted. We are nor a rational bunch when we get scared.
My thoughts on Bush II are pretty mixed but tend to fall in the category of "nice guy but in over his head" . . .

This goes back to his involvement with the Rangers but is amplified by the Cheney/Rumsfield experiences. (The "draft deferment" crowd always makes me nervous! Don't go into the "never served" because that's a much simpler discussion than the active choice to not serve and challenge your draft status.)

Nice guy . . . but not a leader.

I did appreciate most of his efforts post 9-11 but the grandstanding was never a positive.
