I agree with all of that except "Avoid glass, metal, and ceramic for anal toys."
Silicone gives when you bear down -- you may like that or you may want the resistance that a firmer toy gives. Metal and glass are terrific for masturbation, for foreplay, and for extended wear. Many women report that they like the "filled up" feeling of glass or metal. Both can be smaller and still make you feel "full." They get really slick and are easy to insert (sometimes too easy -- you have to be sure that your partner is ready!). You don't need as much lube as you do with silicone. Plus, you can't use silicone lube with silicone toys.
Both glass and metal are incredibly easy to clean. Glass and metal both warm up very fast with just body heat and retain their heat for a while. Silicone can feel cold unless you prep the toy in warm water for 5-10 minutes.
Here's someone who agrees that glass is great.
Metal is pretty expensive, but there are some gorgeous glass butt plugs that don't cost an arm and a leg. I would agree to avoid ceramic or wooden toys, as they are very hard to keep clean.
