In a peculiar case of rotten justice, a Homestead, Pennsylvania police officer has admitted to accepting oral sex during an undercover prostitution investigation.
Officer Ronald DePellegrin received permission to investigate an Internet advertisement posted by "Beckie Dymon," an escort offering services on the Pittsburgh Backpage. Dymon was later revealed to be 26-year old Diana Gross.
Posing as a customer, DePellegrin grabbed condoms and baby wipes per Gross' request. After meeting at her apartment, the officer removed his clothes and briefly received oral sex.
Ms. Gross's lawyer, Michael Waltman, has threatened to file a civil rights lawsuit against Officer DePellegrin, but there appears to be little grounds for the plantiff’s claim.
Homestead's District Attorney Stephen Zappala and the town’s police chief have refused to issue DePellegrin a suspension or even reprimand him.
According to WPXI, Waltman has threatened to take the case to the federal level if necessary.
Three years ago, officers were warned that engaging in sexual acts during undercover investigations would qualify as "outrageous government conduct." The notice, issued by Zappala, followed a similar incident in 2010.
Where is the outrage?
In an odd twist, DePellegrin’s own report divulged the incident's details. "Beckie took the condom and put it on me," he wrote, "[she] started to perform oral sex on me when I said 'oh shit the cops are coming.'"
DePellegrin’s honesty and the absence of any illicit transaction will likely protect him from any civil damages. For the sake of justice however, Homestead’s sheriff’s department would be wise to address the suspicious behavior before a lengthier pattern emerges.
