I think the issue with dislike buttons is that it doesn't tend to foster much of a sense of community, and really just leads to hurt feelings. Someone will post something, "Hey here is a picture of my dog!" and then someone comes along and clicks "dislike" for whatever reason then the dog owner gets all bent out of shape and it's downhill from there.

We see that enough as it is without the dislike button.
