Hi, if you want to hear a Southern accent, you'll need to go to a Southern state. Texas is more of a Western state with an element of the South, but you're in Austin and there is a mishmash of folks here from all over the country. Also Austin isn't like the rest of Texas and you'll rarely even hear a Texas twang in this city. You need to visit Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, the Carolina's, Virginia and West Virginia where you will hear a plethora of different Southern dialects. They are quite charming so I can understand why you would want to hear them being from up North.
That's what the local told me this morning about the southern accent not being common in Austin. thank you
I got a little twang. It really comes out if I am tired or have had a cocktail!
