I don't know if he fits the category, but I think Lyle Lovett is a great song writer/ performer. He's written and recorded a few "Texas Style Blues Songs"
I'm not a huge fan of traditional I, IV, V blues progressions with a turnaround, but the harmonic progressions in Texas Style Blues are different and much more sophisticated.
