I have a number of wonderful time pieces and the wife has a friggen auto-winder box full of those and more.... I never bought any of them off the internet directly, but did find a few "classic, estate sale pieces" being sold by upscale boutique jewelers, usually in Scottsdale and Palm Beach areas.... I arranged to take them on consignment, secured by my AMEXP, pending an inspection by my trusted jeweler.... never had an issue and probably bought 3 of the 6 I looked at..... gotta be careful
I came to this thread looking for one thing, but found another. I'm in the Seiko, Luminox, Invicta type watch collecting category. Currently I wear an ArmorLite. All are $300 to $700 watches. You guys are outta my league!

First "nice" watch I bought was a Seiko. $70 at Target. Thought I was hot shit that day.
If you fly internationally often, you can find pretty good deals on high end watches for airmiles. Since work gets me lots of miles, its really nice.

For everyday wear and beat on watches, I love all my Wengers. For the reliabilty, they are dirt cheap and tough.

All my dream watches are Omegas. At the Frankfurt airport every clock is an omega clock. I'd love to score one of those for my office.

Gotta admit, I really like their pocket watch. Basic and elegant.

Did my homework. This weekend I hit the dealers and start the bartering...which I hate.

I love nice watches. I used to think of them as practical accessories, but in the era of smartphones they have become jewelry. I now wear them for how they look, not what they do. Even when I'm wearing a watch, out of habit I will reach into my pocket and pull out my iPhone to check the time.

Spoke to several dealers today and waiting for best offer. Rather have a Drano enama. Worse then buying a car....

Have you seen an Aqua Terra in person? It's wider than my damn wrist.... I was looking at the Railmaster model, it might be bigger than the standard.

Beautiful watches, just try one on and make sure it doesn't make you look like this guy.

Yup, tried on the AT and it was fine. Lighter then I estimated. From the size I was guessing a few pounds.

Cash is NOT king in these situations anymore. They don't like the hassle of the large amounts of cash versus swiping a card. I ended up going to every dealer and the boutique. Picked a favorite out of what they have in stock in each store and then just negotiating off MSRP....now I'm afraid to wear it.

Why are you afraid to wear a watch?

Cuz it's too nice. Kinda like a kid with his first bicycle.

Last night I found a flaw on the crystal. VERY tiny hard to see but it was there. Ran it back to dealer and they'll get me a replacement. Don't think that would've happen if I had gone via internet.
