That's right-- missed that...
They have been trying for years to play a preseason game with KU and I think K State, but have been declined. Originally Posted by i'va biggen

When WSU has a great run in the tournament, it's still perceived as a 'cinderella' story. If they were going head to head with KU and K-State every year in the regular season....that changes things.

It might also generate some pull for WSU becoming part of the Big 12 conference - again not a scenario that either KU or K-State is itching for.

Don't have a dog in this fight, I'm an Arizona Wildcat. What would KU and K State gain by playing WSU? If they win, they're supposed to. If the lose, they'd never hear the end of it. Self has said he'd rather play Duke at Madison Square Garden in a game that has national interest rather than a game that has local or regional interest. He has a responsibility to schedule in KU's best interests, he has no obligation to assist in raising the Shockers profile. Same with K State.

Be careful what you wish for. It's hard for major conference teams to keep up with KU, much less a mid major. WSU would probably have been competitive the last couple of years, but the reality is they would probably not fare well over the long run (see K State). I don't see how a future graphic on the TV that says KU is 28-2 against the Shockers over the last. 30 years will help them. It would reinforce the perception that the programs are on different levels. And speaking of perception, where do you think WSU would be ranked if their only loss was a 12 point defeat to KU? My guess is 15 or lower.

I'm a fan of WSU, I'd just enjoy the ride while it lasts. Haven't heard about the Shockers going to the Big 12, they don't play football. Of course, neither does KU.

I'm hoping all 3 Kansas schools make the Sweet 16
Time will soon tell if the Shockers are a very great team or simply a very average team that has a perfect season while playing no team in the top 25.
