Eggs

Egg prices are down from the Joey Bribes regime. Full stop. Originally Posted by bambino

Eggs in 2025 are so far expected to be 50% higher than in 2024. Due to avian flu, eggs are one of, if not the most volatile foods that the USDA is tracking.

And as we progress through the spring, we have to look ahead to the fall and bird migrations. We know that the flu has found a home in dairy cows, as well.

And part of the price stability at wholesale has been because of imports. Which will mean little if the flu swing s back as it has been since 2022

Avg price of a dozen Grade A was $5.12 in April.

Last year $2.86. So while they're coming down they got a long way to go

Hey, I've got an idea!

Why don't we let the smart folks over at Trading Economics tell us what's been happening to egg prices? They've been tracking them for decades! They even have a nifty chart showing the trend over the last 1-10 years! It's updated every day. Here's the link:

https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/eggs-us

Now, for the purposes of this thread we don't need ten years of data, do we? We only need to compare the price of a dozen eggs 1) when Joe Biden left office on January 20th and 2) today.

Ready? Here goes:

January 20, 2025 - $6.55
May 13, 2025 - $3.43

Oh dear! According to the smart folks at Trading Economics, average US egg prices have declined by $3.12 a dozen since trumpy was sworn in. That translates into a drop of nearly 48%!

Wow! Did yinz hear that? Lemme repeat:

Donny and his Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins have lowered the price of a dozen eggs by nearly half since January 20th!

Can you say "thank you, Donny"? Can you say "thank you, Brooke"?

They've done a bang-up job of reversing the sting of Joe Biden's sky-high egg prices on the average American's food budget.

That's called WINNING!!

Let's not forget to thank Mr. Gristle for bringing this WIN to everybody's attention!

Wholesale prices which haven't flowed yet to the grocery store. This isn't anecdotal, you can verify using multiple Pgh zip codes.

A dozen large Grade A Hillendale Farms eggs at Giant Eagle today is $4.99

A dozen large Grade A Eggland's Best at Giant Eagle today is $5.49

You're way behind the 8-ball, Gristle. Wholesale prices peaked over 2 months ago. Price declines have been flowing through bigly to retail shelf prices ever since. Follow the bread crumbs.

Or don't, if you want to pretend you're smarter than the folks over at Trending Economics who've been tracking this stuff for decades.

People may lie, but the data speaks for itself.

Bottom line - Egg prices have been nearly halved since January 20th.

Eggs US

The egg prices refer to the national FOB average prices of white large eggs in wholesale markets, calculated based on the cost of 30-dozen cases of caged shell eggs.
No reason not to trust them. Took them at their word, quoted above.

So what's left of your argument? Wholesale egg prices have yet to flow through fully to retail egg prices lol? How long do you think you can keep this thread going before that's no longer true?

Word of advice - This isn't going to end well for you, Gristle. If you're smart, you'll start hedging yourself now.

Another word of advice - for god's sake, try to be honest. Compare today's egg prices with January 20, 2025. Not with some 2024 average level.

Sorry, lusty. Until large grade A are widely available for at or under $2.99 a dozen at retail on avg the admin still has work to do.

Reg price. Not a special sale. Certainly not wholesale.

Its encouraging that we're thus far getting through spring with lower avian flu outbreaks, but we seem woefully unprepared for the fall.

Will be interesting to see the updated USDA production estimates next month. Recall they trimmed the most recent ones.
Eggs are still much more expensive than they were a year ago. Across the board. Trying to deny that is to struggle with objective reality.

The job isn't done

Egg prices have eased now that grocery stores have enough supplies to keep their shelves stocked, according to the latest market update from the Agriculture Department. That’s largely thanks to a drop in consumer demand, a surge in egg imports and a lull in avian flu. And yet, newly imposed tariffs and a likely resurgence of the virus impacting egg-laying flocks could pose a threat to that downward trend.

Nobody gives a fuck what eggs cost at Giant Eagle, you are using the highest price store in Pittsburgh to compare to.

There is no single item that represents the entire econonomy, just grow up and move along.
Lol. trump, JV and MAGA bitched about gas and grocery prices for 4 years. Where were you telling them to "grow up and move along" then?

JV even went to grocery stores to bitch about the price of eggs as official campaign events. Who do you think you're fooling here?

And let's remember, the most recent avian flu issues began in 2022. We saw the biggest issues last year that led us here because of a massive upswing in how the flu affected flocks of commercial layers.

More important question. Is a president to blame for Egg economics, and is one to be given the kudos for them, since they really have about ZERO to do with the pricing of them. Open markets, and disease have certainly 90% more to do with that.

next thing you know they will be getting accolades for sunrise and sunset too. Yinz get the point. I think if your gonna politic on lowering them however, you'd better have a plan that you can present and document, vs. just the normal ebb and flow of pricing due to extraneous factors that have nothing to do with political party.
