Artificially increased home prices are inflationary. Exxon is already driving them up by absorbing the available housing in the area. It doesn't matter how much one's home is worth, if one doesn't want to move and/or there are no buyers who can afford the inflated prices.
We don't need another California spiral downward. It's already bad enough that Texas electrical utilities (except for the municipals) have to pass on the California losses to Texas users. Having the unions infest the existing job market will decrease the job creation in Texas, which is booming.

Generally speaking, rich guys do OK in all but the most fucked up places, anyway. I don't think the USA will be more fucked up than Costa Rica, which I hear is a fun place to live, anyway.
