Here are a few thoughts for the grist mill.
An HDH starts her biz at about 24 yrs old. She can't start much earlier because it takes that long to learn how to conduct herself. She's out of the biz by about 35 having made enough money to keep her for the rest of her life.
She doesn't advertise; she networks. She devised ways to move in the economic strata where her customers are and she works hard to fit in. Her screening is for safety, disease and economic stability. She doesn't bother screening for LE because there are none at that level.

Plus, it takes a lot more than 24 years of age to learn "how to conduct" yourself. I think people need minimum til 30 (or 30 something) to conduct a career or make educations (university or like) into profitable businesses.

In my mind, just as silly as the notion that all women who do this are damaged, sad drug addicts. What I have found doing this is that the lived reality for most women is neither of these two constructs. It's a job. It pays the bills and sometimes pays off the bills. I think this "othering" would not be necessary if they REALLY were so special and different. I know a few high rate escorts and also lower rate escorts and none of them looks at each other different.
