Your headline said she was "fired." A contract not being renewed but with an invitation to return is not IMO a "firing."

Having your contract terminated for cause is being fired. Having it fulfilled is not being fired. Beckels was fired.

The contractor may not want you to build any more houses for them because the development is complete. If the contractors is told mid job to leave the site then he's fired.
