By default, you are assuming that everyone in this corner of ECCIE is riskier than anyone else. How about traveling providers? Clients that travel for business to other cities? Clients that travel here and also play with their local providers? There is risk EVERYWHERE. The only way that you completely minimize your risk is by being celibate.

If you don't take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and others that you play with, the risk will always be high; no matter where you go. It seems to me that you fail to understand that.
This Miranda I love you babe but it's not just San Antonio. It's everywhere. We just have to be very safe. I think a lot of people got offended because you specifically said San Antonio when it's everywhere. Did you know that Tampa has an EXTREMELY high rate of sex offenders living there. So your clients there could be registered sex offenders. And as a mother I know that would disturb you as much as it disturbs me. You can't just "X" out a place because of all the bad apples. If you did that...well every place would be "X'd" out. STDs are on a rise everywhere. So are populations. More people=more STDs. Just be safe and you'll be fine. Some of the ladies have awesome ways to screen for STDs in our infoshare. Soak up as much knowledge as you can. Knowledge is power and it will help keep you safe so do as much research as possible. Hugs!

A bit of education is in order here.

The report that got everyone's panties in a wad was for the rates of congenital syphilis in Bexar county. Congenital syphilis is transmitted from mother to the baby in the womb. That's all the report covered. The statistical numbers were so small that any sort of increase will give you wild percentage increases.

For example, if there were 5 cases last year and 10 cases this year, that's a 100% increase. The news media, which is in the business of selling advertising to viewers, is going to jump on this "100% increase" and sensationalize it in order to get people to watch the news. "100% increase" sounds a lot more ominous than "5 more cases than last year."

The actual number was 18 cases. Roughly 25,000 babies are born in Bexar county each year, so the infection rate is 0.00072%. Which means that 99.99928% are born without syphilis.

Play safe & smart and save your worries for something more deserving. Originally Posted by mwsatx

Thanks mwsatx, appreciate the intelligent info... And to our lovely mirandalee, quit bagging on San Antonio, shit happens and it happens everywhere!
The stats are based upon the 5 times increase in congenital syphilis, babies born with syphilis, that occurred toward the end of 2012. All 18 babies were born at University to young Hispanic mothers. While the national incidence of the disease is down 1.6%, in Houston it has spiked among black men, most of whom were having sex with other men. However, in SA it is mostly Hispanic women turning up with it.
