I use Mac for both home and work stuff. I am in at the video industry where everybody uses Mac though so YMMV. The hardware costs more initially but continues to work over the years a bit better than windows machines.

I've been very pleased with my Macbook Air, it runs everything I need it to run. If we are doing an edit or render we put it onto a Mac Book Pro or Mac Pro tower.

You're going to love yours!

Which do you prefer and why?

My college semester is starting shortly and I want a new laptop. A friend is trying to convince me to get an Apple laptop although the prices are high and I'm wondering what exactly you're paying for. I will admit that I detest windows 8 but was thinking about getting another Windows program.

So which is your favorite? Windows or Apple? And if Windows which brand of laptop would you say is the best to get?

I would be embarrassed to tell someone that I paid $2,000+ for a laptop. There is a reason 90% of the Operating Systems are Windows based. The software that I need will not work on Apple computers.

I build my own desktop PC's and I've used both Windows and Apple laptops and never had a problem with either. I simply can not justify throwing good money away on a laptop just because it has the Apple logo on it.

Wow a lot of great input! I'm getting my degree in Business Management Information Systems as a back up degree. I already have a career where I've been licensed but I just want a back up just in case. Is Asus a good brand if I do go with Windows? Another thing that everyone made me think about is what would be best for my degree program. Something I will also have to discuss with my school to see what they also suggest. For those that use Mac, do you use it mainly for home use or work? Originally Posted by Malaya

For students, Apple Stores have deals. Take your school id with you, and ask about their deals. I bought my Mac, back in 2003, and they gave me a free Ipod. Both of those still work, but I've upgraded to a MacBook Pro.

I'm pretty sure my dad has his windows desktop from when I was about 5-7 years old.. Seems like windows is pretty good...
I just got the iPad Air and I love it :-) but this is the 1st apple product I've had. So I can't really say whether it is a good or bad product :-) especially cause it's not a laptop.

I have an asus laptop which is windows 7 I think, and it worked awesomely til one day it just wouldn't show the wifi capability... I was finally able to take it to a PC doctor and the guy fixed it very fast... It is a good laptop for about $300.

I also have a windows 8 Hp laptop and I love it cause it is sleek and clean looking. However, it is somewhat annoying cause the "start" screen will pop up when I go to use the mousepad... Or other items you've pulled up(pictures, videos... Etc) will pop up.
It is a very good laptop. I don't know the exact price of this laptop as it was a gift. But it is very good for storage of files and music and pictures, as there is a ton of space for all of that on mine :-)

Good luck on your choice :-) I know it's a hard one
