Going back to THIS thread, several of my gentlemen friends are in the oil industry, a couple fairly high up on the totem pole. The ones on the upper rungs of the business ladder warned me months ago that things were going to go down, and I'm not talking about me getting on my knees. Hasn't made a difference in how frequently they enjoy my lucky charms, yet. However, the guys not so high on the food chain are making cutbacks, have told me that they can't visit as often, and at least 2 fellows were caught up in the recent layoffs, and one is worried that his overseas job will disappear soon.
Oil-dependent companies (like equipment manufacture, sales, rental, service, even transport) are tightening their belts. Drats, bats, cats chasing rats! When expense accounts are cut, so is the lavish attention I receive.

Sure, we all enjoy the low gas prices, but it has a trickle-down effect. May take time to be felt, but, like me, it will be felt all over.

Not only gas, but cattle, too, impact the Texas economy. Drought and escalating feed prices caused a lot of ranchers to sell off early last year, not so many cows as there used to be, beef and dairy prices up already and expected to rise another 40% in the next few months. Your grocery store bill is going to get shocking. Get ready to eat so much chicken that you cluck.

Good time to go on a natural foods diet. I'm planting a garden and teaching the chihuahuas to hunt squirrels.
Funny you guys mention... I was at Saks this weekend and the sales lady said she's never seen the place so busy... Wives are shopping, my friends... That, indeed, may be a bigger indicator of how bad things will get in the near future... lol

Just in case they don't hunt or you run out of squirrels.
