Why the private tags?

If I may, I personally agree with the OP. If someone wishes to post using private tags, who are any of us to say that they must/should make the comments public? They've clearly expressed their desire to make their comments visible to only a select group of people. They do have that right to make that choice don't they? "Calling them out" on it does wreak of snitching IMO. Oh, & there is a reason why they call it being a "snitch." Because the other "itch" had already called dibs on the "B." blah blah blah....its fear that the person you are talking about will change their view of you....its an open forum and people need to grow a set of balls and say what you gotta say.....if you think it will offend or worried about how you are viewed then dont post it or dont have the balls to deal with the backlash then dont post it.

We have alot of newbies on this board that know anyone and really dont know anything about the hobby...they got here by a dating site, or SB site or BP and they are just flying by the seats of their pants....and have no one to give them any guidance and hell when you try to give them some they reject it....its fucking anarchy!

Now as same with you this is of course my opinion and you are certainly welcome to yours...just know there are 2 sides to this...and I can tell ya Donkey and Copter have very little credibility...bank on that.

If somebody chooses to use the private function in any thread it shouldn't be a problem. Even in the Men's Lounge, where it serves no purpose.

I will disagree with the assertion that it is either white knighting or snitching. I believe it's just one individual who doesn't like another individual and vents a little bit, in an inappropriate manner. It can happen to the best of us.

Or it's just something that gets on somebody's nerves and they vent about it. Of course it could also be an indication that somebody with a big ego thinks he has the right to police the forum in any manner he sees fit. There are lots of possibilities, I suppose.

I would suggest that posting in a review about the usefulness or appropriateness of someone using private tags IS indeed hijacking a potentially valuable thread. When the dialog changes from the review to why somebody is using private tags it is, by definition, a hijack.

If the person who has a problem with how a different member uses private tags it would be more appropriate to post in the coed section about his or her issues so it can be discussed in a civil manner, even though the chances of a resolution that is mutually agreeable to all parties may seem unlikely. As fellow member ElumEno has done with this thread.

First off you dont know me...quit acting like you do. It has nothing to do with policing... been at that for 10 years in an actual patrol car..not that much fun and BTW I think our mods are doing a great job doing it for us.
I have merely pointed out and agree with MW that there is an overuse of private tags and I stand by that (get over it)...nothing personal on my end but now you have made it personal...so your on the list.
