90% of them believe in a wizard that lives up in the sky and a book written 2000 years ago, but they have trouble believing genuine verifiable scientific fact.
Then they act surprised that this country is going to shit.

The fear and ignorance involving science is a byproduct of the religion, though. They have to place mistrust in science because it disputes their very creation story. They learn science from a 2K year old book and a preacher. Because I know when I want to know about science, I go see a preacher. And yet, verifiable scientific data from peer reviewed studies hold no sway. If they ever want to know why the country is going to shit, a look in the mirror will tell them why. The mistrust of science runs DEEP. And the thing that you'll hear many say as a reason not to trust it is the very reason that you SHOULD trust science. They say it changes too often. Yes, when it finds a mistake, it corrects itself. That's called learning.
What they're basically doing is plugging their fingers in their ears and going "I can't hear you, blah, blah, blah"
