For the ladies...how long will you give references for a client?

I won't give a reference for a guy if it's been more than a 12months since we last saw each other. I simply tell the lady making the request "I saw him last on this date, but I'm sorry I can't offer a reference for him".

Laura, if he was a decent client, can't you at least say that? And maybe follow up with "Although it's been twelve months when I last saw him, he was a decent client at the time. I couldn't vouch for his present-day reputation, however." Or something to that effect?

If it's a friend that was a frequent guest of mine for an extended period of time, I may say something to that effect. But, if it's someone that I've only seen once or even just a few times, I wouldn't do it.
Thanks for your comments on this thread, everyone. I guess there's no "hard and fast" deadline when it comes to vouching for guys, although anything beyond 8 months might be a no-go.

I started this because I wanted to know how far back us guys could go. As was posted earlier, it's not difficult to lose your recent references due to girls not doing it, retiring, forgetting who you were, etc.
