Most Electricity production is now shifting away from being COAL generated to being Natural Gas generated..... Originally Posted by Celso

Those "clean" electric cars have a dirty secret called rare earths. Those batteries are dirty as hell to make & recycle, just some food for thought before ripping on combustion engines. BOTH are far from perfect.

Hey, a SHMB is no place for facts or common sense. Only parroting talking points and spewing vitriol allowed. You should know better Roscoe.

Thanks for the informative links.

All sources need to be taken advantage of.

Well the reasons fuel cells have failed so far is well documented. It comes down to the hydrogen needed to run them is dangerous as hell. It's really awesome technology but there's no huge conspiracy keeping them out of the marketplace.
I agree We need to be pursuing a lot of options until dominant a option comes along.

Oh but this is about autos..... which brings to mind this same myopic thincking went on back then by some when they saw the first autos driving down the street....they laughed and yelled ....."Get a horse!".....

Point is we need a Manhattan Style Project to build working Fuel Cells!
Hydrogen is the ticket!.....and this scares the fuck out of BIG Energy interests!

These happen to be the only two companies that build the gas compressors for truly large scale hydrogen separators. These separators are usually installed in far flung places like Vietnam, India, China, Pakistan. Why? Dangerous & risky as hell! One of the by-products of the separation process is hydrogen sulfide which under pressure eats away at seals causing.....leaks. These facilities spend a lot of time under maintenance and are extremely difficult to operate. Although Hydrogen is a potentially plentiful resource it is still not viable on large scale (supplying the 256 million road vehicles currently registered in the USA) & remains highly volatile. Anybody that has forgotten how combustible hydrogen is can refer to the picture below.

I'm glad that you are optimistic but sometimes facts are just facts no matter how much you want to ignore them. Navy nukes go through extensive & rigorous training & must still continuously drill and prepare for the what ifs. Not exactly the technology I would want to see in the hands of Joe Shmoe or Betty Housewife who can't even remember to put air in the tires because they are too engrossed in their Starbucks Frappalattechino. Hydrogen for fuel cells is stored at 10,000psi. Car fires burn really good but don't explode like you see in the movies, ask any fireman or emergency responder. When a 10,000psi tank filled with hydrogen fails....it's gonna be VERY noticeable.

Couple that with FUCKING Republican Deregulation that now allows these FUCKING BIG OIL Crooks to raise pump prices at will EVERY TIME one of these farkups Occur!
Right now Oil trades at ~31 dollars/BBL. Last time it was that low we were paying 70 cents to a buck fer a gallon of gasoline! WTF we pay still over 2 bucks a gallon!!!! WHY???

Us Libs don't like getting fucked over by BIG OIL.
You mind numbed Cuntservatives don't mind since getting fucked raw by the Oligarchy running the US into the toilet comes natural fer you....ya just bend over and takes it dry ....with a Sweeeeet smile as yer Cuntservative mentor & guide Plassy Mum, would sigh!!!....
