Is hobbling even worth this risk?

You can say, "I think you're stupid" that is your opinion. You can say, "that's the stupidest thing I've heard today" that's is a comment on his post. You can not say OP is an idiot or he's stupid for carrying a handgun to a session, or talking to the manager. That is a direct insult even if it's true.
Most of my points and warnings were for insults of this very nature.
You can still get your point across, it just has to be worded carefully.
