Camille, if the client had not used aggressive/bossy instead with communicated/feedback would you be less critical of. I only mention because it doesn't sound like they meant to be derogatory, but we're providing feedback apparent with many young providers.

Mea Culpa - I could have chosen my words more carefully. "Aggressive" is often interpreted as meaning something rather more brutal than giving detailed step-by-step instructions. And I do appreciate the concern about the kind of cretin who lurks on boards like this. Hopefully, screening and references will weed them out - but that process isn't perfect.

That's another lesson learned. I've had a few good sessions with young providers, which has likely raised my expectations to a level that others cannot match. But I've also had lackluster sessions, like the one that elicited the review that led to the present melodrama. Some providers set limits on their clientele, stating they won't see a client under a certain age. So my lesson is that as a customer, I ought to do the same.

So in all - mistake made, lessons learned. It's been a valuable dialogue. Thanks again.

Being completely honest when I first read this thread my exact thoughts were "John? He's teddybear that doesn't like to tell providers what to do at all."

From my experience, he has never been anything but kind and understanding...but I can certainly see how being with a provider who doesn't know exactly what she wants and won't lead him will result in awkward and uncomfortable sessions. I've also noticed that gents who tend towards the older ladies generally let me take the lead where as those who see younger women will try to direct the action.

I'm glad Camille pointed out the comment because it needed to be said. I'm also glad that John is the mature and understanding man that he is and took the criticism for what it was, a reaction to how the comment would be interpreted.
