I also don't find it surprising, that here in the South where antiquated religious ideals about sex prevail, as well as our very own state legislator blocking state funding to certain clinics because of religious belief, that disease is higher.Dear V
Rather than educate people on how to handle sex safely and properly, it is demonized and kids are just told, "Don't do it." That was literally the extent of my own "sex education" during my formative years. I learned everything I know about sex "on the street" which is terrifying and so unsafe. I count myself damn lucky indeed that I never caught anything in my younger years. Originally Posted by Victoria of Houston

The post before this had me thinking again how well thought out your posts have been. However you start your point degrading the south and besmirching

I don't find it surprising that here in South Hampton where antiquated.......
Chistians ( especially southern) are fair game while every other religious
Group is shown a certain amount of respect.
As far as the Sex Ed that is another kettle of fish.

I never hide the fact that I am a liberal and vote democrat, although it might not necessarily be something i bring up during a session as there is no context for it. "Never discuss politics or religion over dinner."
This was a specific post so I brought in some of my opinions.
I can't get insurance to go see the gyno, because the Texas legislator has blocked it; they have blocked it due to religious beliefs about abortion.
I don't have a problem with what anyone chooses to believe in. I do have a problem when those beliefs come into play in politics and laws/bills are passed based solely on those religious beliefs. We are supposed to have separation of church and state, but in this state we do not.
I also have a problem when because of those religious beliefs children are being taught to purely "abstain" from sex and are not being given the proper education about it. Again, education and what programs are in place being mandated by the gov't.
I was raised in a very strict Christian home and was told I would go to hell if I had sex before marriage and so was given none of the proper information about it. I find that sad.
Those are my opinions. They are not meant to offend anyone's personal's beliefs. If it does, it was not my intention. I can be happy and agree to disagree, but others may not feel the same way.
If that be the case, then so be it. Originally Posted by Victoria of Houston

Not meaning to pick a fight but tolerance for all means tolerance for all.
And yes I appreciate you expressing your opinion

Dear VJust on this point, at least here in the US, Christians (especially the more conservative ones) get more criticism simply because that's the predominant religion here. It's also generally the more conservative sects that push for restricting rights to other groups, so that also draws more attention to their actions.
