"Nurse" is a very broad term. I believe there are a number of tiers to the profession and some categories of nurses are very highly trained and can make technically advanced decisions. The upper levels of the nursing profession are pretty well compensated. At the other end, there are nursing assistants and home health-care aids, who have lower educational requirements and much lower compensation. Originally Posted by brasilIntelligent observation.

Intelligent observation. So they have to work 50+ hours a week to make what an average hook makes in about 25-30 per week(this includes screening, maintenance, running ads, etc) hours a week...
What I am referring to is a garden-variety, community college graduate who is a Registered Nurse, having passed the licensing examination. Picture a nurse with these credentials, without a specialization, and on a med-surg floor of a local hospital.
These nurses typically make between 28 and 32 dollars an hour. Using $30 as a standard, they're pulling a little better than $62,000 in a conventional 40 hour a week scenario.
Essentially 100% of nurses work overtime hours and as non-overtime exempt worker bees, they get paid time and a half for those hours. Assume 10 hours of overtime a week. The nurse is going to earn an additional 23k and change.
That's $85,000 a year, and that's in no way extraordinary. Add health insurance and all the other bennies they receive for being legitimate members of the workforce and you have a living wage right there. This is for an individual with an associate's degree.
If you're a hook with a Master's degree and you can't make more money with your education than you can wth your pussy, your Master's degree is in the wrong discipline. Originally Posted by Next Best Thing
