Mac Laptop or IBM Laptop

Sounds like the closest you can get to Mac quality is windows machine with liniux....

What keeps Mac from getting viruses? That is one of the biggest selling points to me. Originally Posted by Eccie Addict

I would get a thinkpad with an ssd drive, built like a rock and fast.

I you really want an iPad att has a deal on them.
Ok.. the weekend approaches and for those I mentioned meeting up with to show Linux to... PM me with your area of town, and we can shoot for a Saturday afternoon. I will probably be in Mid-town at Rudyards for something I do every weekend and could hang late there for everyone. Rud's is at 2010 Waugh drive - Waugh is a 1 way street going north so if you go to Westheimer and Waugh, go north and Ruds is on the left.. look for the red building. Park across the street.

They have wifi there so I can do my pc magic there.
sounds like a great deal. I will not be able to make it this time. But, we can shoot for another Saturday and I will be there. I want to see some of this magic.....lol
Cool beans I will have all three of my portables there (Netbook with XP on it, my old Dell CPX which runs Ultimate Edition Ubuntu LITE which is great for low powered legacy machines and my D830 lattitude which is the power house

For the remainder of this week I am working 3 pm to midnight M-F then I go back to mornings for a few weeks..(we rotate) but weekends are always open.
Also, this invite is not just for Mods and guys, if any ladies want to come out they are welcome to.
Well I can't speak for the wildly overpriced Apples, but I have had many years with IBM. The problem is that IBM laptops are not made by IBM any more, but by a company in China called Lenovo. Since changing, the quality has gone right out of the window. I've lost count of the problems my colleagues and I have had with Lenovos and I would never buy one with my own money.

If it were my cash it would be spent on a Toshiba and I would have Windows 7 because everything works with it. Linux variants are all very well, but you have to really be pretty savvy to make everything work and to get around compatibility issues.
I am going to assume that those interested in seeing Linux on a laptop are still coming out.. I will be at Rudyards as usual so meeting there would work and it is central. PM me so I can send you info as to how to identify me
Ok, no PM's so I am going to assume those interested in meeting tomorrow will be there... I will be at Rudyards upstairs till about 3-4 pm (dunno if someone else has the upstairs for something else later) but I can hang out downstairs too.

usually I have black backpack and I will wear a ball cap that has the HP logo on it.

Well, I got a (Dell) not one of my favorite Lattitude 15 inch, 8 Gig of RAM and 250 Gig Harddrive.

I think I am going to meet with Spirit to get Ubuntu installed. I have heard so much about it and I am very interested. We may meet on a Saturday soon somewhere in Houston.

With that much horse power you won't have issues.
