Spaniards, may be?
I think the "Mexicans" "conquered" the Alamo, which took them about 5,000* strong against about 200, and they lost reportedly about 600 to kill around 200 after 13 days.
*Although they claim "1,800" only, I've read differently from a translation of memoirs of a Mexican soldier who survived the "campaign," and the subsequent defeats.
Of course the defeated Obaminable, but he was golfing.

He brought enough to break the siege at the Alamo and kill all but a few of the defenders.
It was not enough, however, to sustain a Campain over a broad area, especially in a Territory as vast as Texas, with limited supply lines and support.
The one important fact of History that can not be denied is Sam Houston lured Santa Anna into a situation that almost guaranteed the Mexican Dictator's defeat.
And that is exactly what happenned.
