LOL: The Cruel Irony of Trump Bringing Coal Jobs Back

We know you do not read much or do research. You just like pictures and mimic whatever CNN, MSNBC tells you to think. Just once try thinking away from your masters.

I guess now , you'll bitch about the Big Oil subsidies!

You fuckers are gay pretzels

But hey, go build a fucking coal plant or invest in power companies that are predominately coal-based

I do not support coal mining, either. Natural gas is clean and produces far less CO2 for about the same price. Plus, gas comes out of the ground in Texas, so The Lone Star State gets the tax revenue, not those dumb fuckers in Virginia.

If they can compete and are environmentally clean then good for them. I'm not anticoal. I'm just not for polluting to planet at any cost.

Coal is a dead end. It is cheaper and faster to build a plant running on natural gas vs coal and it is cheaper to run and maintain. Jobs are being lost to automation so even if there was a surge in coal there would not be a flood of jobs. Instead of getting off their ass and go learn a new trade they sit there waiting for whoever they voted for as president to get their jobs in coal back. Not going to happen
Take two power plants
One is nuclear
The other is, coal especially WV coal and not lignite
Which one has more background radiation??
The coal one, because thorium is in the coal and coal ash certainly is not benign

Coal is the Dino. Sure with no regulations we could bring down the costs and pollute the fuck out of the country....even China is getting out of the coal biz. Originally Posted by WTF

Coal provided 16% of our total energy consumption in 2015, you dipshit. That's more than SIX TIMES as much as we derived from wind and solar combined. Even after decades of generous government loans and subsidies, your "wind and solar" category doesn't even contribute as much as BIOMASS or HYDROELECTRIC do!

If you're talking about power plants, there are dozens of coal-fired plants up and down the Ohio River and its tributaries. The coal is mined nearby, transported cheaply by river barge, then fed by conveyor belts into the plants. All very efficient and cost-effective. Even if natural gas looks like a better option for new plants (and I hesitate to generalize), the existing coal-fired plants represent sunk costs and their operating expenses are low. If you force these plants to shut down prior to the end of their useful lives (as odumbo's EPA was planning with its ridiculously stringent CO2 mandates), it would not only yield minimal environmental benefit - it would also shutter coal mines and jack up electric rates throughout a region that is already economically depressed.

That said...I heard (or read...can't recall) that inventor, engineer, super-rich guy, Elon Musk, is hell-bent on developing an efficient (and inexpensive) "home battery" that would harness solar energy. Do any of y'all know if this is true (or is this simply the stuff of science fiction)? If I've got this wrong, my apologies.

At the end of the day it is an economic decesion. Politicians want to get elected and jobs will usually trump enviormential concerns.
