CNN trying to save what's left of their reputation... Which ain't much.

the ny times has printed what they call a definitive list of trump lies

many aren't lies depending on what one chooses to believe

an example: “We've taken in tens of thousands of people. We know nothing about them. They can say they vet them. They didn't vet them. They have no papers. How can you vet somebody when you don't know anything about them and you have no papers? How do you vet them? You can't.” ( the Times' proof of a lie?: they merely say vetting lasts up to two years)

I believe trump

some are typical ny exaggerations or puffery perhaps but the underlying genesis is there

an example: “A reporter for Time magazine — and I have been on their cover 14 or 15 times. I think we have the all-time record in the history of Time magazine.” (The Times responds:Trump was on the cover 11 times, Nixon 55 times)"

trump was guessing at the number and from his statement it was clear he was estimating the number of times and to him it was a lot and to him he was thinking it was more than anyone else, not exactly a lie, more just an error

Here's another prime example of what the ny times calls a lie:

“The coverage about me in the @nytimes and the @washingtonpost has been so false and angry that the Times actually apologized to its dwindling subscribers and readers.” (The Times' claim: It never apologized.)

notice they don't address the statement their coverage has been false or that their subscriber base is dwindling

as to the apology:

Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger wrote an open letter to his readers asking forgiveness, although he did seem to sputter on a real apology, giving one of those is "if anyone is offended" type apologies:

“We aim to rededicate ourselves to the fundamental mission of Times journalism. That is to report America and the world honestly, without fear or favor …,”
So the Times was “rededicating” itself to honesty. Does that means it was admitting that it had been less than honest during the campaign?

the Times’ own public editor attacked the way the Times slanted its coverage to make Clinton look unstoppable and Trump to look “frazzled.” She said “the picture was of a juggernaut of blue state invincibility that mostly dismissed the likelihood of a Trump White House.”

and so you have it.

misstatements or exaggerations by trump at times? perhaps

Lies? there more purposeful lies and or dishonesty in Times' list and in their proofs than in Trump's statements

It's also why CNN is falling in status as a "NEWS" organization.
Speaking of "retractions", here's an interesting tidbit from yahoo.com ..... Thomas Frank, a reporter for "CNN Investigates", last Thursday appeared to have a compelling exclusive on the story of the year. The Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating the Russian Direct Investment Fund "whose chief executive met with a member of President Donald Trump's transition team four days before Trump's inauguration." That transition team official is Anthony Scaramuzzi. Scaramuzzi admits he met with RDIF head Kirill Dmitriev, but according to him he "exchanged pleasantries in a restaurant with Dmitriev." This CNN exclusive, which contained only one unnamed source, didn't take long to unravel. Breitbart News' Matthew Boyle said the CNN piece was baseless. CNN issued a retraction the next day, and then just this past Monday CNN announce that 3 of their network officials were leaving their jobs over the incident. Frank, the reporter of the story, Eric Lightblau, a recent CNN addition from the NY Times (another world leader in truthful, unbiased reporting!!) who edited the piece, and Les Harris, the executive editor of "CNN Investigates". CNN executives concluded that "longstanding network procedures for publishing stories weren't properly followed - there was a significant breakdown in the process. There were editorial checks and balances within the organization that weren't met." CNN apologized to Scaramuzzi, but as of last Monday they weren't saying what led them to retract their story ..... Now I may be going out on a limb here, but do they really expect us to believe that "editorial checks and balances" are in fact used on ANY story they blurt out? .....That if they in fact had such a policy at all, or didn't try to legitimize it with "one unnamed source" then perhaps we couldn't consider them the king of fake news anymore? .....
