He lied that removal won't cost the city. It cost the city 2 million in other city resources in securing & moving the monuments.

He could have:
-left the monuments in place
-hold a public meeting on where to relocate the monuments
-finalized the decision on where the monuments are to be located
-move the monuments

all of this could have been done cheaply without expending city resources & without incurring anger. Masking would not be needed and work would be done during the day.

I do think this has to do with next years 300 year anniversary celebration and the monuments would clash with the progressive image of New Orleans they wanted to project.

The blue state is in a real mess. Not only is it home to the murder capital of the US, they are totally broke. Who would want to live in that shithole. They are probably going to lose the Lotto. They can't even make those payments.
