Self moderation with the use of the ignore button should be sufficient. But people rather complain. I'm a member of a couple of other boards and thats how its done right.

If you do not break the rules, then it does not matter how many mods there are and only those that try to skirt the rules have a problem with mods. Self moderation causes segregation of certain members, invites trolling and a gang mentality against those that are not the cool kids or have a differing opinion. However, if a mod goes on a power trip, plays favorites with his buddies on GL infractions, ect. then it is time to get rid of that moderator, which is probably one reason why a few have been relieved of their mod status.
Can I ask what boards you are a member of that do not have moderators? Since this a free country, all people should be welcomed on here, but IMO, if you are not contributing member, meaning doing reviews on a review site, providing intel (not personal agenda related) to inform other members to help make hobby decisions and ask/answer hobby related questions/subjects, then why are you on this type of discussion board?
