In search of the best Cheeseburger in Austin!

If you are ever in Fort Worth go to Tommy's. It is near the NAS-JRB on 820 west of Lake Worth (the actual lake not neccesarily the town) I think.... Man it has been forever... But it is off of 820. The place is inside of a gas station... yes I said gas station... They have a burger there that has EVERYTHING on it. They call it the Junkyard Dog. Get that, and know that it really doesn't get any better than that.

As for Austin and burgers I have been a little dissapointed.

Hey Kosher, what do you say for a good burger in Austin?

And I don't think I've ever eaten a bad restaurant french fry. The worst fries are the ones I cook in the oven! Nothing makes those taste right Originally Posted by TaylorMaiden29

I'm always on the hunt for a good cheeseburger so this is all good information, thanks for sharing.
P.Terry's
Huts free range burger
Elevation burger also free range
I still have more investigating to do!
I wish In-N-Out would go global!!!
This is a great thread and good info for a relative Austin newcomer, such as myself. I have already tried P Terry's, Mighty Fine, Dan's and Fran's. I was going to visit Hill's yesterday but had a last minute change of plans. Perhaps next week! Hint, hint!

When in Houston be sure to visit Lankford's Grocery in Midtown. Goode Company Taqueria (across from their BBQ on Kirby) is very good as well!

It is time for another one of Kosher's bi-monthly food threads, this time cheeseburgers. Kosher has found pizza, steak, and Mexican food on here so he figures he will now get cheeseburger advise. Kosher hates the following burger joints, with a passion.

-Huts ( piling on 50 toppings cant change the fact the piece of meat they use there is horsesh$t) Kosher likes to taste the flavor of the meat, not hide it. For this reason, Huts and the rest of these joints all are banned by Kosher
-EZ's

-Frans

The next group of failure burgers are applebees, chili's, bennigans, etc. These places fail in Kosher's taste buds for they will not cook your burger R or MR, MW is what they serve. This sucks for Kosher likes R or MR and also feels if the restaurants are worried about a lawsuit for Kosher turning in to a Mad Kow than they are probably serving sh$t meat.

Kosher likes Burger Tex and Fuddruckers. Not the best, but they can at least cook it MR. And they use a real piece of cheese, not a piece of ' processed cheese food'

Kosher loves and is addicted to the cheeseburger at the Cheesecake Factory. They fucked it up once out of several times ( understood) but they gave Kosher a re-cook that was the best MR/R burger in ages. The blood and juices trickled down Koshers hands with each bite in to its pinkness. The Cheesecake Factories burger is so far second best, and they will happily cook your burger to R or MR. And you can taste the juices and fat and flavor in the meat, and it is bright pink like the inside of a vagina and is warm and moist. Tonight, Kosher had a burger at Cool River, and it too was in the category of Cheesecake Factory. Kosher ordered his Cool River burger ' DiamondJohn' style ( may he rest in peace); one temp below what he wants, Kosher ordered rare and it came out just shy of MR, perfect

Even better than Cheesecake Factory is Casino on 6th street. That was the best burger yet in Austin, cooked right. Kosher has not had one in years, the last time Kosher had one he went to the Midnight Cowboy while his burger cooked, 45 min wait usually.

At the moment, the only burger in the ' on deck circle' is the Riata Bar and Grill up north, Kosher is told they are delicious... (2010 update, it sucked)

If anyone else has other suggestions, please let Kosher know so he can add a burger to the long list of food joints he has found on an adult message board...

In 'N Out has really good burgers below $6. I inquired about starting a franchise in Texas. Franchise stays in California to "ensure consistent quality with materials."

Kobe Burger is good at Hyde Park Bar n Grill.

HH burgers:
Roaring Fork Big Arse burger.
McCormick & Schmick's HH burger (used to be $3 + pint).

One problem all the "legendary" food places tend to get is that they lose their mojo. The place that was great a few years ago often turns to shit later. Either they get cocky and cut corners, the good manager leaves, someone buys them out, they can't handle the increased volume of business, they get money and lose interest, or take up bad habits, etc.

Sometimes, a place will keep up the quality, but all too often, they don't.

The other thing that will fool you is when you remember that great meal you had somewhere. You go back later and it's crap. Then you remember, that you had been tied up doing something, and were starving to death when you went there and thought it was the best burger you'd ever had.

If anyone is ever in San Antonio, try Chris Madrids on Blanco Rd. They have the best burgers. Chesters and Murfs also have a good burger.
