Pittsburgh's Greatest Sports Hero

What about Dan Marino and Jack Lambert? Curt Wakefield and his knuckleball? When it comes to sports announcers, I sure liked Nellie King and Bob Prince together they made Pirate baseball awesome. And of course a little fella Myron cope was always a gem to listen to. I met him several times when he was imbibing at the local Holiday Inn near channel 4 back in the 80s and 90s. Dude swore like a sailor -it's amazing he was able to not let that shine through when he was doing his commentary. And we can't forget Mike Lang who is my all-time favorite penguins commentator.

BTW, I was a member at St Clair CC. Prince was the President before my time there. He was a legend there. Especially with the swimming team. But he had all the great MLB players there as guests to play golf. He always had a big screwdriver in his hands. Hence, it was called the Gunner.

I was also a member of Chartiers CC. Lanny Fratieri was a member. Cool guy. Leyland was a member too. Cooler guy.

We are family days
These guys were together for several wonderful years
Dick Groat may have been the best all around athlete Pittsburgh has produced. MVP in MLB. Played in the NBA. Held Dukes BB scoring record for 40yrs. He was a scratch golfer. Originally Posted by bambino
