[quote]I do think a little advance notice would be nice though for planning purposes.[quote]satexasguy, ck gives us plenty of notice. What you may want to do is to contact him...ahead of time to get vouched and on the list. Then, you'll the notices as the rest of the vouched members.
Since San Antonio events commenced in 2001 (yes, 10 years ago) the invite rules have always been pretty simple.
Everyone invited must be well vouched, and, for that matter, re-vouched periodically to assure that hobbyists for one are "active" in the community, meaning they play at least every month or so.
No one must be a member of any board, but, practically speaking, most usually are. The events have always been independent (not sponsored) of any board, but most board owners have been generous in allowing bandwidth for community events.
I ask prospective hobbyist invitees to have a minimum of 2 established providers send me vouches. A new provider vouch might count for something, and certainly will be considered, but "established" to me means a year or more in the hobby.
Events are held in public places, usually with some private or semi-private space dedicated to our group, and even if held in extremely private spaces, the basic rules are the same:
No illegal activities. That means no play for pay, no drugs, absolutely nothing that can compromise the security of our members, guests and our host venue. Please respect all attending by no inappropriate touching. For the security of all involved - no camera action. Also, we ask that all and any board "drama" be left outside the venue.
Those who don't follow the rules are removed from future invite lists.
There's some mandatory attendance rules, not strictly enforced, but nonetheless in place for both Providers and Hobbyists. e.g., show up at least every couple of months to stay on the invite list.
That said, we suggest visiting providers consider attending; lurkers who are well vouched may also get an invite.
The attendees are quite dynamic. Out of the last several events more than a third of the attendees are folks who have never attended - thus the "new member" description.
As for "announcing" events, these are mostly listed in my signature which is updated frequently. For the convenience of those in SA and Austin (yes I host events in Austin every 6 weeks or so) I'll start announcing a week in advance.
Consider this the announcement for the monthly San Antonio Lunch which is Tuesday, Feb. 7. And vouching closes at noon Monday Feb. 6.
