Dudes, this was the 1960s. That's when it was okay to call gay people fags or queers. Hell, we did it in the 1980s when I was in high school. If anyone was even slightly suspected of being gay, they got bashed. It was what every red-blooded, heterosexual teenage boy did. It was a right of passage.
