By exercising his free speech rights he demonstrated he was an idiot. I suspect if he was a valuable employee they would have ignored his actions and stated his free speech rights to explain them not firing him. I would be willing to bet he was someone they wanted to get rid of and this just gave them the opportunity to do so.I suppose most any employer would have canned someone who conducted themselves in such a manner. If they knew about it and it was a possible image liability . My employees understand that they represent their company on and off duty and that we expect that they act accordingly.
