I like this new acronym I picked up from former D supporters and election committee-persons. OMG!!! Obama Must Go! Anyone whom has measured their personal financial status would agree. I am taking home less disposable income by $200+ per week now than in January of this year. Look what he's done to the welfare program; food stamp program has more than tripled in the last three years; national debt has been increased by 400% in three years. How do you feel about when selling your home as a homestead, at least here in Texas, under ObamaCare you will be taxed an additional 3.8% over and above Realtors fees. Any clue on 2nd Amendment folks? Better do your research. Outsourcing jobs - do your research and form your own opinions and quit listening to the TV people who call themselves news reporters. Just one quick question for someone whom is more in the know than myself...please tell me one thing Obama has done for the American People since in office and please provide your research. Thanks for your time.. Originally Posted by AnimalHouse

Here is comment from from a blog posting on theAtlantic.com website about the debate which I thought was too good not to share:

"We elect presidents based on what we think they will do in office. Politicians, by necessity, lean different ways through the election process, but usually the leaning is sufficiently small that the public feels a general consistency about what the candidate beleives.

Romney does not lean, he teleports into a different dimension. And he teleports into dimensions that don't exist for skilled politicians. His 47% remark was the biggest self-inflicted wound we've seen from any politician. And it's not just the remark, it's the doubling down for 3 weeks, and now, wait for it, the complete renunciation.

It's like reality doesn't matter, and the teleporting can go to any position with any speed.

The problem is that we, and I mean everyone except Mitt (and maybe his wife), have very little idea what Mitt would do as president. That scares a few people."

Emphasis added. Another commenter speculated that since Willard M has taken both sides on every issue during the long campaign season all the people on either side who have supported him are now hoping he was just lying to those on the other side of the issue.
This is fun to follow. I just love how partisan America has become. We all LOSE!
Romney won the debate, no doubt about it. I really wanted to vote Republican this year (I have never voted for Democrat for president and don't know when I will). BUT, there is no way I would ever vote for Romney. That guy is an ass clown. Seriously. He will say anything to win. Half of the stuff he said in the debate was just BS. It's too bad the other Mormon didn't get nominated. Jon Huntsman would get my vote hands down. Instead, my protest vote will got to Gary Johnson.

Romney reminds me of John Kerry with how awkward he is trying to appeal to non-rich - and how absurd his flip flopping is to pander to the audience du jour.

nuglet - how excited can you be about rumsfeld being gone when Obama has pretty much acted like a neocon anyway. A neocon with a nobel peace prize no less.

sweet - wow, you are aging hotly. oops, was that my outside voice?

Any veterans out there? Here's one for the record.
In all the years since D-Day, there are three occasions when the president failed to go to the D-Day Monument that honors the soldiers killed during the Invasion.
The occasions were:
1. Barack Obama 2010
2. Barack Obama 2011
3. Barack Obama 2012

For the past 68 years, all presidents, except Obama, have paid tribute to the fallen soldiers killed on D-Day.

Actually,

The first American president to participate in a D-Day commemoration in Normandy was Ronald Reagan on the 40th anniversary of the invasion, June 6, 1984. He visited only that one time during his eight-year term.

Reagan's successor, George H.W. Bush , never attended at all.

Bill Clinton attended only once, on the 50th anniversary of D-Day in 1994.

George W. Bush attended only twice during his term of office: on Memorial Day 2002 and on the 60th anniversary of D-Day in 2004. (He also, in 2001, dedicated a stateside D-Day memorial in Virginia.)

As stated above, Barack Obama has attended only once, on the 65th anniversary of D-Day in 2009.

Between 1944 and 2012 — a span of 68 years — exactly four U.S. presidents have attended D-Day memorial ceremonies a total of exactly six times. Barack Obama was one of them.

The historian of the US State dept has a record of all US presidential visits to France which you can find here:

The last two D-Day posts remind me of Daniel Patrick Moynihan's remark that "everyone is entitled to their opinion but not to their own facts".
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Daniel_Patrick_Moynihan
The appalling thing about politics In recent years is the aggressive assertion that the Right is in fact entitled to its own "facts" and that they can be anything the Winger wants them to be without any regard to objective AKA "scientific" reality whatsoever.

That and the media's willingness to report screaming lies as "he said, she said".

Here's my take, without tipping who I support:
Romney won the debate hands down. He was forceful, engaging, displayed a good command of the various topics for the most part, and generally showed a side of him that few have seen and many had longed for so they can vote for him.
-
Obama looked at times disinterested, bored, and more like an onlooker than a participant. His performance did improve during the second half of the debate, but by that time most watchers had formed their opinions.
-
So, the upshot is this: Romney supporters who expect, and Obama supporters who are fearful of, a repeat performance in the second debate will be sadly disappointed. Barack Obama is no fool, and he'll work his ass off to improve his performance. Mitt Romney gave such a good performance that all he can really do is hold serve. I look for there to be no consensus winner of the second debate, which will be a de facto win for Obama, since it will stop the bleeding in the tossup states.

Here's an interview with David Rothschild about what prediction markets have to say, and how they have a much better track record than polls:

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/business...still-a-h.html

There are links to Intrade, Betfair, and IEM and they show Obama still on top. Not based on the whim of the day, but what the market actually predicts based on current conditions.

So I wouldn't convert to LDS just yet.
It appears to me that all anyone is really voting for these days is Party. Perhaps that's always been the case. I think few are really impressed with either candidate or all that concerned with who is at the helm. Voting Bush in for Two terms was proof of this.

Those OK with the Government perception that it knows what's best for the flock and is totally justified in doing whatever the hell it chooses in spite of the will of us clueless peons, will vote Democrat.

Those who are OK with "Every man for himself", OK with Corporations and the minority of extremely wealthy calling all of the shots while adopting a "Fuck You Loser" policy toward everyone else will vote Republican.

Of course there are the blind fanatics divided by Religion, Abortion and Gay rights.

Proven liar Obama can be as passive and weak as he wants to be and Flip Flopping Romney can be as obviously full of empty unrealistic promises and complete shit as he wants to be. It doesn't really seem to matter either way.

No one can "honestly" deny the disappointing history and traits of either candidate but most still even willing to register will vote party. The whole "Hope and Change" rhetoric is dead in the water this time around.

Another thing! Anyone willing to vote for any politician based upon election season rhetoric and debates is a complete idiot who doesn't deserve the right to vote. Focus ONLY upon what the candidate has said and done during non election season to expose the truth about who they really are and gain a clearer picture of what to expect in the future.

I don't even think most people even put in that much analysis. Most of the voters are one of the two major parties and will continue to look the other way as long as their team wins.

Obama has been as pro-large corporation as anyone. I know so many people that are republicans because they think they are a member of the rich guy white party. But you know the Carlin saying about "the big club"

There is absolutely no accountability - the worst possible consequences are: we'll just wait on the sidelines 4 years until the other side fucks it up so badly we'll be given another chance.

How else could an incumbent president who is screwed everyone, even his base of progressives actually have a chance? It is because they other side put up an equally shitty candidate promising to increase military spending, from the industry that has wrecked the country and doesn't even know how to disguise his 1%er let them eat cake attitude in rehearsed speeches.

It's pretty funny how toxic the word "change" is from his last campaign. I guess the next thing we'll avoid talking about at all costs is his new campaign theme - the future.

2011 estimated population of US was 311.5 million people. Only about 70% of those are registered to vote. Only about 48% of registered voters actually go out and vote. Which means really only 33.6% of the people in this country actually exercise that privilege. So with that said, you can figure about half of that group is semi-knowledgable about the issues enough to cast an informed vote, while the other 50% flips a coin, votes straight party, casts a protest vote, etc. Whatever the case may be...

Add it all up and you got a population of 311 million people, you got an informed voting populace of 16.8% meaning only 5.2 million people make all of the electoral decisions for the other 296 million people...

Globally, the United States ranks 39th in the world in actual voter participation.

Point being: don't let someone else decide what is best for you. Regardless of your political persuasion - get out and vote, or else quit complaining about how "unfair" the system is.
