Parts of the government are open--such as TSA and ATC.
However many parts are closed, whether your myopic brain wishes to acknowledge it or not. Actually, my bet is you know this but have very selective recall when a lie fits your purposes better. Care to see how long it will take you to get a passport this week, visit a national park, or check on your grant application (among other things)? But so long as they aren't your paycheck--or the part of the gov't you care to interact with today--what is a little exaggeration/mistruth among friends?
And no, the government (yes, federal government) workers who are furloughed are NOT getting paid.
Some day it would be a pleasant surprise to see you post about something you actually know.

I also read that even "non-essential" personnel where told to show up for at least half a day today and that in most prior "shutdowns" their "lost" pay was eventually recovered.
